The general feeling about Blanc de Noirs is that it offers a richer, more fruit-dominant style when compared to Blanc de Blancs. It is often more vinous, textured, and layered. Although a majority of Champagne is still a blend of both black and white grapes (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay), there is growing interest in these two categories, and many people have a clear preference for one over the other.

The Montagne de Reims is planted with 40% Pinot Noir and 36% Meunier, and the Vallée de la Marne, west of Épernay and Reims, where Meunier dominates the plantings, often produces Blanc de Noirs as well.

Through the wines listed, we can explore the soils, the producers, and this category as a whole, and hopefully see whether there is a common thread among these wines based on the category, or whether a producer’s terroir and style shape them differently.
